We bought a nice sailboat in November 2025, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey, 42 feet.
It was located in one of Tenerife’s southern ports.
We were there in January to look after it and had the pleasant company of Niclas and Riitta Selin.
We went through everything, there are many nooks and crannies on a boat! We found many “nice to have” things and learned a lot about various functions.
We went out to sea to try out the “wings” or rather the sails. The winds are strong around the Canary islands in wintertime. We literally flew forward at a little too good a speed, which is why we returned to the safe embrace of the harbor before the waves went over our heads, and had a nice beer instead. In Swedish there is the expression “vågspel” which is kind of a funny game with words since våg means wave.
The boat was named San Blas by the previous owner and we do not intend to rename it.
The name comes from a saint:
Saint Blaise (Latin: Blasius, Italian: San Biagio) was a Christian bishop and martyr who lived in the 4th century in Sebaste (present-day Turkey). Among other things he is said to have walked on water and thus it is an appropriate name for a boat.
